windows_exporter is a monitoring agent published by the Prometheus Community that exposes detailed Windows operating-system metrics in Prometheus format so they can be scraped, stored and visualized by any Prometheus-compatible observability stack. Designed for administrators, DevOps teams and site-reliability engineers who need fine-grained insight into CPU, memory, disk, network, IIS, .NET, service state, process counts, MSSQL performance and dozens of other subsystems, the exporter listens on an HTTP endpoint and returns time-series data that integrate natively with Grafana dashboards, Alertmanager rules and long-term retention systems. Typical use cases include capacity planning, anomaly detection, SLA reporting, post-incident analysis and automated scaling of Windows-based workloads in on-premise, hybrid or cloud environments. Because the tool is lightweight and installs as a standard Windows service, it can be rolled out fleet-wide with configuration management tools and updated without rebooting the target machines. The project is actively maintained and, with 27 releases to date, has evolved from basic CPU counters to comprehensive coverage of Windows-specific objects; version 0.31.5 represents the current stable line, continuing a cadence of quarterly enhancements, security hardening and compatibility fixes for recent server and desktop builds. As an essential component of the open-source monitoring ecosystem, windows_exporter is available for free on get.nero.com, where downloads are provided through trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
